I love quotes that add meaning to my life. Here are a few to live by:

Americans who have been to France and come home craving a reminder of their magical European experience, love Vermont cheeses.
—Allison Hooper, founder, VT Butter & Cheese Creamery

Practice not cleaning your plate: it will help you eat less in short term and develop self-control in the long term.
—Michael Pollan

Sweet taste buds develop before all others, that’s why small children love sweets.
—Bronwyn Dunne

Don’t eat breakfast cereals that change the color of milk.
—Michael Pollan

My rule of thumb is, when in doubt, cook more than you think you may need.
—Marian Cunningham, from Learning to Cook

TELL YOUR FRIENDS! Each new subscriber in October = $2 donation to Vermont Foodbank

This image is from the Vermont Foodbank website for the promotion of Hunger Action Month (September).

Following on the heels of Hunger Action Month, we would like to encourage you to share In the Kitchen with Bronwyn with friends, colleagues, neighbors, and associates.  Fall is the time of harvest; while many of us are blessed with plenty, not all are so lucky.  As we share stories, recipes, and memories about food, help us make a difference for those who are not as fortunate.  For every new subscriber in the month of October, In the Kitchen with Bronwyn will make a $2 donation to the Vermont Foodbank.

John Sayles, CEO of the Vermont Foodbank, says it best on their website: “With 1 in 4 Vermonters turning to the Vermont Foodbank network each year, it is critical that we all take action to end hunger…Our children cannot learn, grow, and succeed on an empty stomach. Together we must create a world where we all have the healthy food we need to thrive.”

153,000 people in Vermont struggle with hunger and access to healthy food.  We can be the change and make the difference to our neighbors.  Candace is one of the many Vermonters who has benefited from the support of the foodbank and local food pantries.  She was kind enough to share her story with the Vermont Foodbank.  Watch her full story here.

She is a mother, a daughter, and a wife in Rutland County, Vermont, and she is caring for her aging parents every day while trying to provide her children with the food they need to grow. Her husband works full-time, and they still can’t make ends meet. She said, “I have gone without meals. My husband’s gone without meals to make sure that our kids or my parents ate. I was relieved when I found out that there was a food pantry in my own hometown. […] It means a lot. I’m able to feed my children, my mom and my dad. I love my parents. I love them with all my heart. They took care of me when I was little, and now they need my help. It’s my turn.”
