I love quotes that add meaning to my life. Here are a few to live by:

We can dramatically increase global food availability and environmental sustainability by using more of our crops to feed people directly and less to fatten livestock.
—Jonathan A. Foley, director of the Institute on the Environment, U of MN

Don’t eat anything your great-grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food.
—Michael Pollan

Cooking is at once child’s play and adult joy. And cooking done with care is an act of love.
—Craig Claiborne

People who eat according to the rules of a traditional food culture are generally healthier than those of us eating a modern Western diet of processed food.
—Michael Pollan

SUBSCRIBE TO MY BLOG BY DECEMBER 25 TO BENEFIT THE VERMONT FOODBANK!

I became interested in the Vermont Foodbank when I first moved from the District of Columbia to South Burlington. Unlike the food distribution organizations in other places I’ve lived, the Vermont Foodbank treats feeding people as a privilege, not just a responsibility.

Kingsbury Farm’s strawberry high tunnel bustling with bees in early spring

Two years ago, under the energetic directorship of John Sayles, the organization branched out to become farmers in addition to distributors and fundraisers because John and his staff realized the necessity for more fresh fruit and vegetables in their program. Now, with the crops produced on the Kingsbury Farm in Waitsfield, Vermont, in the Mad River Valley, the organization can be proud of the fresh produce they provide.

I feel very grateful that I can help support the food distribution program provided by the Vermont Foodbank and hope you will join me in helping them continue the work they do, providing healthy food to those who are struggling to maintain a hunger-free existence. Watch this YouTube video about the Foodbank’s Kingsbury Farm, a short film produced by Middlebury College’s “Farm Stories.”

For each new subscription to my blog from now through December 25, In the Kitchen with Bronwyn will donate $2 to the Vermont Foodbank. Two dollars will provide 12 holiday meals to our Vermont neighbors in need.
